Live Music at the Art House
"Music can lift us out of depression or move
us to tears - it is a remedy, a tonic, orange juice for the ear.
(For some) music is not a luxury, but a necessity.” Oliver Sacks
The emphasis is placed on originality and
locality, encouraging diversity and grassroots creativity - we open
our doors to even the newest of fledgling musicians and groups. This
continues through in our selection of open mic nights, whether your
a ‘first-timer’ or an accomplished musician, there’s a space for
you.
Music Workshops
If you're looking to try something new then one
of our music workshops should tickle your tastebuds. From African
drumming to Bodran, guitar to english folk fiddle, didgerido to
world jamming.. djembe, djun-djun and a variety of percussion, music
culture begins here. You can even make up your own instrument out of
junk and create improvised music, by joining in one of our regular
‘Improvisors’ Orchestras’. Check out our what's on page for
regular updates.
Are you a performer?
We like to book musicians who have been
recommended by our regulars and by people we know and trust. We can
provide a sound engineer and PA equipment if required. If you are a
band and you would like to play here,
please tell us about your act, and join our
Musicians & Performers facebook group.
Performers really appreciate the informal
atmosphere and attentive audience that our relaxed and quirky
surroundings evoke.
